Topic: 1981 22r runs but won't idle intermittently

I have a problem with my stock 81 22r, but it is intermittent.  It always starts and usually idles fine on the first start of the day.  After that it is a crapshoot as to whether it will idle or not.  I can keep it running with my foot on the gas, but it runs rough.  After I start off it accelerates fine and goes along at highway speeds for hours at a time with no trouble.  When I pull off and stop it may idle or not.  I checked the anti-dieseling valve and I hear a click when it is energized.  I replaced the fuel pump, all of the vacuum hoses, drained some gas from the tank and checked for water, sprayed carb cleaner in and around carb, checked carb sight glass for proper level, checked choke for cold start operation.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help.

The slow cut solinoid on the side of the carb is bad.

I would also suspect gunk in the carb,  clean it

Thanks for the advice.  By "slow cut solinoid" do you mean the anti-dieseling valve?  Do you have a part number?  Again, I appreciate your help.

Could just be the wire to the idle solenoid too.  I've had one fall apart leaving me with no idle, crimped on a new end and idled fine.  Single wire with blade connector on passenger lower side of carb

I replaced the anti-dieseling solinoid with a 8mmX1.00 bolt with teflon tape and the problem has gone away.
