lowering transfer case 2 inches to stop vibration
« on: Aug 04, 2014, 05:48:50 PM »
what is your thoughts? Lowering a TC 2+ inches to level out the rear driveshaft. My rear drive shaft measures 39 1/4 inches with double CV at is at 5+ inches leaves. More than likely use washers to do the drop.

I think lowering the case is going backwards. Id lower the truck or focus on pinion angle. but if yor talkin tg style 5'' springs that are more like 7-8'' Id suggest lower lift springs

with a cv your pinion needs to be 2* under the slope of the shaft. from my experience just 1* off is all it can take to have problems

I did this in one of my builds and came to the conclusion that it would have been better to have lowered my truck or get the angles right to avoid the vibration. It did work though so as a band-aid fix it does work. I used tubing, not washers to achieve this.

with a cv your pinion needs to be 2* under the slope of the shaft. from my experience just 1* off is all it can take to have problems

the reason for this is because the pinion will rotate up towards the bed upon loading the driveshaft (acceleration). OP in your setup, when loading the shaft you are probably pushing the pinion angle further up and forcing the driveshaft to be out of balance. Balance is key and only a tiny miscalculation in a shaft can cause a good vibration.
