air compressor
« on: Mar 22, 2014, 08:05:16 PM »
I have a 2001 Taco with the 3.4 V6 and the air compressor I have in the bed won't air up my 38.50s without overheating and quitting. I'd like to have a system that will handle all 4 tires, and even 40s, without quitting and without taking an hour either. The current system also powers the ARBs and the medium size tank under the bed. I don't use air tools. I'm not a mechanic and I don't play one on TV so I need the help of better informed people to solve problems like this. Any thoughts on a better way?

2 via air and a larger tank. i use an aluminum nitrogen tank ( super thick wall and can take a beating)mounted underneath @ 175 psi then reduce my supply pressure to 75. still takes longer than i had hoped for to fill but gets the job done. i hear that the york is the best setup though.
it's not me, it's you

Thanks for pointing me to that. The link -Matt- provided for his York bracket, http://pnwfab.com/YorkOBAmountbasicOS.htm, doesn't link to the bracket info. Does this business still exist? I've looked and can't find it. Are there other sources for this?

i was under the impression he and the others i have known all made their brackets... :dunno:
I converted my ac compressor to oba and it works decently, but it isn't the best.  all said and done i had proably $75-100 into it.  the only thing that sucks about it IMO is you have to oil the compressor so it is messy and somewhat blows oil into your tire.. I  don't think it is enough to matter really, but it probably isn't the good.   I basically let the intake of the compressor suck in a little oil every use.

You can put a small drip oiler on the intake side of the rotary compressor. Set it for one to three drips per minute. On the output install a small coalescing filter (water/oil separator), it will stop a large portion of the oil going into the tank.  Mount the filter by the tank, the air coming out of the tank is very hot and will melt the insides of the filter.
