No drive in from axle
« on: Apr 13, 2014, 01:35:41 AM »
So I'm new to toyota, I just got a 82, sitting on 35s, went to do some wheeling and my front end has no pull at all. Driveline turns, I pulled the hubs and both axle have a lot of play, where do I start, also I am rebuilding the rear axle and plan on doing front very soon, will be going with 5.29 gears selectable locker of some sort in front and full locker rear

what do you mean by "front axles have a lot of play"  if your driveline is turning in 4wd, but your wheels aren't, your hubs could not be fully engaging or your axles are broken, or your ring and pinion is broken.  those are really the only things that can be wrong.  pull your axles out all the way to see if they are damaged at all. if not, then drain the front diff to see if any metal chunks or shavings come out.  if your fluid is fine, then you probly have an issue with your hubs not fully engaging.

When I say play I'm talking once you pull the hubs, the shaft moves in and out up and down a lot I will pull the axles and see where that gets me, I'm doing fluid change anyways so I will watch and see what the fluid looks like.

Sounds like you have a broken birfield joint on your axle.

Well unfortunately both axles are down now, rear end had some bearing malfunctions, so I'm doing a complete rebuild front and rear is there Some things I should look for or keep in mind as I do this,
