Most useful mods for 1984 pickup
« on: Oct 03, 2013, 05:06:31 PM »
Just picked up this pickup a few months ago and would like to know what should be done first to make it a capable wheeler.  It came from Oregon so it has no rust by east coast standards, also has rebuilt engine with headers and weber crab. Also has Hester and a marlin sticker on the rear window, rear diff has new gasket but I don't have a clue what is in there,no locker tho. It also has a body lift . I will try and post a pic

Thanks
James

For me a lockers would be 1st, also since it is evident that the rear 3rd was pulled see if the front was too, you may have a re-gear in it. If only the rear was pulled you may want to make sure that the rear has not been re-geared and not the front. Next for me would be a single 4.7 transfer case, most prefer duals but 4.7's provide enough gearing and is easier and cheaper than duals. Since it already has a body lift a flat belly lift comes easy plus it will bring your shifters back up where they belong and give you more clearance. Some armor wouldn't hurt either if you plan on wheeling beyond moderate trails.
