brake issue soft pedal
« on: Sep 09, 2013, 12:23:58 PM »
99 Tacoma 2rz.I recently installed a hp D-60 front and D-70 rear axles. I also installed the gm adapter and master cylinder. I bench bled the mc and bled the lines. I even removed the mc to recheck bench bleed and all is good. The issue is the pedal is still way to soft. It goes almost all the way to the floor which is unacceptable. It will stop but not well enough to be safe.I do drive this on the street. I'm out of ideas. Any help is greatly apreciated.

Re-bleed the whole system. Are the rears disk? Make sure your rotors aren't warped and spreading your pads. Make sure your rear drums are adjusted correctly.

The front rotors and caliper are just slightly used.I'll def have to check the rear drums. Thank you

There's air somewhere... might find someone with a vacuum bleeder.  Worked for me.  Gravity bleed at your master cylinder then at your brakes, then vacuum bleed at the brakes, then gravity bleed again.  That's how I got my pedal back.

I'll have to look into that as well. Thank you

I got a late model instead of the '86 gm that has the 1" bore. The one i got bolted rite up but the pushrod doesn't extend far enough to compress the cylinder correctly. It does work but def. not well enough to be safe.

You went with a 1" bore? Why not use the Toyota 1"? I though the Chevy master was used for its 1.125" bore.

I only repeated what the guy from sky's tech line said. I wasn't happy with the braking with the 4cyl brake mc I had good pedal but too long of stopping distance. So it makes sense to have a matching brake system to the running gear. I'm sure I could have used the v-6 mc but chose to go with the gm set up.
