96 Toyota T100 SR5 SAS
« on: Apr 09, 2013, 12:33:06 PM »
I have a 96 Toyota T100 SR5 extended cab and I am planning on doing an SAS. I am thinking of running 37's or 40's not sure yet. I also am looking at running front and rear Dana 44's which may be a little small for 40's. I am thinking of running 5.13 gears. I think I am going to fab up everything my self.

I'm not sure what I am going to do about drive lines since I will need longer ones and a solid drive shaft for the rear. I don't know what length of shackles, lifted springs or shocks to get either. But I've been looking.

Any information on this upgrade would be greatly appreciated.

Not an expert but imagine way better off with D60 or land cruiser axles..

I think that D60's are a little over kill for 37's with how light the T's are.

Well I changed my mind... I have decided that I am going to go with a Dana 60 front and a Chevy 14 bolt rear both with 5.13 gears. I am going to run 37 - 42 in tires. Not sure exactly what size yet. This is kinda what I want my truck to look like. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=31519.0

80 axles have better clearance and usually alot cheaper to build.

Whats the difference in clearance and cost of the Dana 80 and the Chevy 14 bolt?

The diff on d60 is closer to the ground then a land cruiser axle. Heres a link to the type of axles where talking about, you can find at junk yards around $300 http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=76971.msg908086#msg908086   My plan when $$ permits

should clarify, we are talking about axles out of a landcruiser, FJ80.

Ah ok... I was a little confused obviously. From what I have seen on Forums the FJ80 is harder to work with steering wise than the Dana 60. I like that the FJ80 appears to be stronger and that it has more clearance than the 60. I also like how its a hp. Does anyone know what the distance from centers of the spring perch mounts of the FJ80?

You can also use the Chevy 14 bolt in the front if you weld on d50 outers and make custom driveshafts... Saw it on extreme 4x4! Lol;)
See you at the Timberline!

That's more work than work than I want to do. I would rather just go with a FJ80 or a hp Dana 60

I have a 96 t100 also, 3.4 5 speed, Im going to be doing a sas within the next few months, with a fj80 axle, and hellfire steering. I also have a turbo trans, which will allow me to bolt it to my 3.4, and have 23 spline gear drive case with no adapters. Ill update this when I start it

Sweet same as my truck. I don't have the upgraded trany. Whats the upgraded steering going to do performance wise? Also, dou you know if the FJ80 axle will bolt right up or will I have to move the spring perches? What all are you doing to your truck?

Realized I have another problem. A HP Dana60's diff is on the drivers side not the passengers. I don't really want to do any cutting and welding on an axle to make it work but that might be the best option. I have looked at using an FJ80 axle but I have found that it is rather hard to get the steering to work. A Dana44 would fit the best but I fear it wont be strong enough for 40+in tires. My question is do they make a large axle like a Dana60 with the diff on the passenger side?

Yes they do. chevys came in a passenger drop. Or you can get a custom one made.

Well I recently bought a set of Dana 60's out of 84 Dodge W350. Turns out the length of the axles are almost exactly what the stock rear axle is in length and the spring perch mounts for the rear axles is the same as my stock one (44in from centers). The front axle's perch mounts are 33in if I remember correctly. I also traded my set of allterrain 33x12.5 R15 for a set and a half of goodyear wrangler 37x12.5 R16.5 with rims.

Next step gears....
