Banjo fitting on a mini truck axle.
« on: Dec 12, 2012, 09:19:42 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has run banjo fitting on a mini truck axle.  Seems like a good solution to get rid of the little piece of line that most people run between the brake line and the caliper.  Make everything a little more simple.  My worry is that where the fitting that goes into the caliper is not machined but I don't see what that couldn't be smoothed out somehow to make a tight fitting.  If anyone has done it or has an idea let me know.

That is a pretty good idea, especially when the backing plate is removed as there is no structure to hold the hard lines. But I think the issue is the threads at the caliper are designed for a tapered brake line ferrel and I don't think there are enough of them to accommodate a banjo style bolt.

It's certainly worth investigating.

I think the 4Runners with the 3.4s have that set up and they are used with the Taco brake upgrade. I could be wrong.

Look at the FROR taco brakes set up.  Lets you use a taco caliper, with the banjo fitting, and it allows you to pull the hub/spindle as one unit which means faster axle tear down.  I have all the parts for this sitting on my work bench, just waiting for a little free time!

I don't believe the the threads are tapered on the brake caliper.

Well I know its been a while but banjo fittings do work on mini truck calipers.  Been running them for a couple months with no issues.  I had these made up at a transmission shop that did brake lines.  I actually did a soft line all the way back to the master brake cylinder.
