What happens to a truck that has been totaled on the trail and left for a long time.

not mine, It is a toyota that got stuck during the flooding up here and has been there for four months. I t is completely totalled the only good parts are the drivetrain and suspension.

find out who owns it and give him $$$ to get rid of it for him . then register it in your name with a junk title or give me his info and I will

I've asked around my town nobody seems to know whose it is.  I even tried to get the license # but the plates where gone so i looked for a vin # but both the one on the dash and the one in the engine compartment are gone.

they did that so they cant get tracked and busted for leaving the truck there.

Pretty sure it is a 1991 4x4 22re Standard cab pickup.

If all the ##s are gone, haul out the whole thing, and if there are authorities (rangers) tell them you did it, and they will prolly let you keep it.  My uncle does that in CO everyonce in a while.  If you haul out the entire POS, they really dont care too much, if there is no way of finding the owner

First call the CHP and ask if the truck is stolen by reporting the licence plate. Then if its not reported as stolen (so you dont get in trouble), write down the VIN and go to the DMV and see who's it is. Maybe the owner really doesnt want if and you can score on a sweet project rig

Check the frame for a vin just behind the front pass tire.
