Found an 87 sport edition toyota at junk yard and i just happened to have the money to buy the motor out of it for my little project and when i opened the hood, to my surprised disappointment, was a 21R-U....in an 87....with a W56 tranny....

what?? i was sad and kinda fascinated too because iv never seen one of these 21R motors haha. Just thought id share my interesting story of the day...

Somrbody had replaced the 22r with a Japan pull out - 21r.

Yea i went back later to find some bucket seats and i asked the owner about it. Said he got the 21R from a place in NC. I said it was a let down and he tried to give me the BS "oh the 21R had way more horsepower than a 22r"

stupid idiot im young but i know alot more about these trucks than you do.

I have no idea how much it'd cost to rebuild one. Iv heard some versions came with 2 carbs from the factory but the one i seen only had one. I know they're not very popular in the after market world. In fact thats the only one iv ever seen. I have seen an 18R before and it was an ugly lookin motor lol. Of course every motor is ugly compared to a chevy orange 454 with a big shiny blower on top

21R's are pieces of

. A true one.
An OEM 22R however will say 21R on the block..

Spartan lockers, 4.10 gears, s, 261 cam, Redline Weber 38, K&N air filter, 2.5in exhaust with glasspack. 300 watt amp, 2x12in kicker subs, 2 tweeters, 2 5x7 sony xplodes/ Dont Tread On Me!! Iv stood toe to toe with some of the baddest joes you'll ever see but i never back away. Knock me down and ill stand back up screamin bring it on. My mind and heart keep me goin long after my body is tired from fighting.
