Slop in CV joint
« on: Jul 31, 2012, 11:13:04 PM »
Needed a CV joint put in my rear drive shaft after I did my lift. I clearanced my old IFS front CV and put in new u-joints and a new CV centering bearing. Rockford #409-0 or Precision #614.

The u-joints are tight but the center bearing had a tiny bit of slop. It pressed in tight and the shaft is not worn? (It's the .511 size)

The shop that built my drive shaft could not get the CV end to balance out as well as it should. The tech said he believed it was because of the loose tolerance of that bearing. He had piles of new ones that all had the same issue. The ball is just a tiny bit loose in the race and doesn't tighten up when pressed in the bore. He thinks it is a manufacturing problem and said my drive shaft will never balance.

Anybody else run into this?
