Need help with transmission
« on: Jul 23, 2012, 01:58:19 PM »
Hello all, New to this site and I'm hoping to get some answers/advice. Probably the wrong place but my google attempts lead me to this site. Anyways, I own a 1985 Toy 2wd. 22r motor and 5 speed tranny. First, second, third and fifth gear has a whine (like a supercharger)... fourth gear is fine. What would cause that? Do I need a rebuild or a new tranny? According to the plate on my firewall it shows I have the W52 transmission??? Is that right? Numbers are "3D7FQ41F302W52". Didn't find any rebuild kits out there for this trans. Just want to get that right before it "blows up" on me, since I daily this vehicle I would like her running good. Any advice suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!!!

Mine started whining and eventually it grenaded at 70mph on the freeway. Make sure it has plenty of oil for now, but I would say it is on borrowed time. My complete rebuild was only about $650, (I pulled and put it back in)

There are transmission and drivetrain parts available on line at many places. I bought my rebuild kit from a local transmission supply house. Marlin didn't have any kits available when I did mine.

I dropped mine off at a local tranny shop in Bakersfield and Anaheim Gear picked it up on their route for free. 2-3 days later I picked it up. Works great and they sent the old parts back to show what they replaced. I'd use them again anytime
