84' 22r oil pan
« on: May 07, 2012, 04:22:14 PM »
Can someone post a pic of one? Am looking because on my 84' 4runner, it likes like a 2wd pan, which makes me see how it has a big dent on the left side of the pan in front. Looks like it sometimes hits the axle or was already like that.

Am amusing that I can bolt a 85 22re 4wd pan to the 22r and it will be fine? Same bolts? etc? Also will have to unbolt my engine to get this oil pan out and the 4wd on? Or can I just swap it out without having to raise the engine.

I think on the 84 and 85 you can remove oil pan without raising engine , because 84 and 85 are solid axle , 86 and up ifs , is a different  story

2wd oil pan sump is shorter then a 4x4 oil pan, the 4x4 oil pan will hang down lower. If you are hitting with a 2wd pan, a 4x4 pan will hit more. If you are gonna switch it, get the oil pick-up & dip stick too. No need to lift the motor on an 84 to switch the pan.

Am not sure how it would hit more? I think its the problem. The 2wd pan from readings look like it has front sump which is why it hits , maybe shorter like you said, but isnt the 4x4 pan have a rear sump so it should not hit right? Cause right now its hitting on the axle. Am thinking with a rear sump the axle cant hit it? . Thanks for the info about the lifiting.

I sure hope it doesnt hit more, thats why I thought a 2wd pan stuck on a 4x4 with a front sump i belive would hit. whears the other wouldnt since its pushed to the rear? , unless its a 2wd 22r?

Mine looks like this comes nowhere near my axle or hi steer & is removable without lifting or pulling motor.

That looks like it for sure. But it has big dent right where the axle hits in the front of the pan on right side or Maybe thats how it was made from the pics. Anyhow, I still think this a 2wd version truck? Wouldnt the 4x4 version look like this http://toyotaperformance.com/1013224.jpg and have more clearance or no?

Well I guess I have to try it. I think this engine is from a motor-home toyota. I think so maybe thats why, should swap out though and I'll see if I have more clearance, on my 22re it doesnt touch anything with the one I posted.
right now it looks I can tell the axle has been touching the oil pan, it looks there is a spot there where it hits some.

Thats awesome well as long as it isnt touchin & bashin it up, then keep the skinny pedal on the floor. Happy Trails!

The oil pan on a 4wd will be to the rear and you will need the pickup too. It is hitting the diff if you have the 2wd pan.

1st pic 2wd pan, 2nd pic with skid on sump, 4x4 pan. I think Rocksurfer is correct. I have a behind the axle tierod set-up & my tierod hit the skid on my 4x4 pan, not bad, but it has hit. I have the opposite problem as you, so I need a 2wd pan to keep the tierod off the pan. I had a 2wd pan & pick-up, but gave it to a buddy before I ever put it on.
