IFS Steering Box Kit
« on: Mar 30, 2012, 08:47:07 AM »
Anybody know the correct kit for an early style IFS steering box? I found a few part numbers on Pirate but, people were arguing over which one was the right one.

One is part number 04455-35050, supposedly not complete and around $40.

The other so called complete kit is around $100 plus. Its part number 04445-35080.

Anybody know for sure which kit I need to reseal my early style IFS box?

OOPS was one of the people that posted up. He thought the cheaper kit was enough but, he doesn't remember for sure. Too long ago.

OK, I finally got some info from toyotapartsales. Looks like the cheaper kit is only for the sector shaft. Doesn't look like it has seals for the input side.

The complete kit has it all. That part is obvious. I needed both input and output seals and it looks like the cheaper kit won't do it.

If you only leak at the pitman arm, the cheap kit will do it.

The complete kit 04445-35080 contains all that is in sector shaft kit 04455-35050 plus much more.

OK, got the image to load. Hard to see but, the green highlighted area is the cheaper 04455-35050 kit. The blue shows complete kit 04445-35080 which is all 3 boxes.

Do the seals have a p/n number on them. Maybe you can cross-reference them and just buy the seals if you do not think you need all the O-rings. Just a thought.

Hi OOPS,

The seals probably do have a number on them. The parts diagrams that was sent to me doesn't break down the individual numbers. It shows an exploded view with lines pointing to the seals included in the kit but, only the kit number.

I could probably go to my local Toyota dealer but, they are not very helpful. I always leave there empty handed and pissed off. Then I get my parts on line.

My truck is 24 years old. If I'm going to get into the steering box, I should just reseal it all and be done with it. It's around $100 but, at least its OEM Toyota Parts.

O'Reilly's has a so called complete kit for $70 but, I don't trust the quality.
