Leaf spring question/opinion, 3B/h55 into 89 4 door hilux
« on: Jan 23, 2012, 08:07:38 AM »
Hello all,

Im going to be starting on my new-to-me hilux pretty soon and Im looking at what front leafs to run in it.

Ill be swapping the entire drivetrain from my SOA 83 bj60 (4.88's longs and poly rears, RDB conversion, 39.5 IROKS, etc.) into an 89 JDM solid front axle hilux truck.

So Im looking at appropriate leaf spring choices for the front end. I dont want it to sit incredibly tall, and I will be doing body work on the bed and front quarters to get it to sit fairly low despite the IROK's. Here's what Im looking at:

83 cruiser rear springs are 46" long, stock hilux front leafs about 44-45" long, front cruiser leafs are about 41" long.

I want to use rear leafs and build new front leaf mounts mounted forward of stock, and build new shackles to fit the wider 60 series leafs.

I have access to a set of used stock rear 60 series leafs, and Id like to use them. What are your thoughts on these for the front and the weight of the hilux?

Thanks.
