6cyl diff & 4cyl diff interchangeable?
« on: Apr 09, 2011, 09:44:18 AM »
Okay guys so i have a 91 4runner with 4.10s im pretty sure i need to replace my rear diff beacause i found chunks of metal when changing gear oil, the rear diff is a 6cyl diff. Now my question is , my cousin has a 4cyl diff that hes willing to give me that has 4.10s, is it okay to run the 4cyl diff? or is that not possible?

Im just curious i dont see why you couldnt but then again I dont know too much on this topic either. Thanks guys

It will be fine to run it, just keep in mind it is a weaker diff. than the V6.  It it were me, I'd go ahead and run it temporarily while I was getting my V6 fixed and then swap the V6 back in as soon as I could.
Tungsten isn't filler material!  Quit dippin' it!

Some people are like a slinky....not really good for anything, but they sure can make you smile when you shove them down the stairs!

x2 If you are just going to dd it in the mean time you should be fine, but it is weaker.
