My new 1981 LWB
« on: Nov 11, 2010, 08:31:32 AM »
Hi,
I just bought a rust free 81 toyota 2 weeks ago. This truck came from Idaho and now is in Vermont. I'm the third owner of the truck. I want to restore the truck back to mostly stock. I was wondering where is a good place to buy interior parts thats the main thing the truck needs. Here are some pictures of it. I will get better ones soon.

Thanks,
Opie

Thanks. This is a rare find around here. Normally they are rusted in half and just absolute garbage.

good luck finding any original interior pieces for this year! I had to make custom door panels and dash, due to outrageous pricing or just could not find most pieces.

I mostly need a dash pad. The one I got is cracked to hell. I can build the rest of what I need. I work at a full 5-axis machine shop. So custom parts are in order for this truck.

dash pads are easy to come by on ebay! they fit nicely and can be had for about 60 bucks!

nice truck, parts are hard too come by you have any pick-a-parts out there?
I like money, I use it, I have a little. I keep it in a jar on top of my refrigerator. I'd like to put more in that jar. That's where you come in..-

Not really. The junk yard near me likes to sell its junk parts for more then what you can buy them new. So the internet is my friend with this build.

Check with the dealer, I just picked up a headliner, sunvisors, tons of misc interior parts & new weatherstripping.  Pretty crazy they can still get parts for a truck that old.

Have to agree for stuff like dash and door handles and window cranks the dealer is best.  I am just blown away that they still have parts for 1st gens and some times the prices are reasonable and other times, well.....I need to see if the bank will give me a loan for a dash pad.

I never even thought of trying a dealer for parts. These trucks are very rare up here. And if you do find one they are just piles of rust.

Not trying to hijack the post, but I need some seats worse than you do based on the pics.  That dash doesn't look to bad from here, especially being black.  Mines all blue and busted to hell.

Anyone know what's the deal with using the acura seats and which models and years are typically used.  I just saw someone had cassually posted about using the acura seats as they are very comfortable.  Do you have to switch tracks or make brackets.... etc?

Opie, I know you said you wanted to stay stock, but I would suggest you start looking a w56 tranny and drivetrain, especially if you got the 4-speed and plan on driving the highway.

I have a 5-speed from a 90 waiting to go in, but that won't be going in until later this summer at the earliest. And I have a sweet set of Toyota bucket seats for it to out of the 90. I need to get the electrical problems squared away first. Once those are dealt with I will start more of the mechanical work.

Sounds like you gotta plan.

I've got some pics on here somewhere of what I did to the cross member in case you need to look at options to get an idea.  I know some guys position them with U-bolts but this doesn't seem safe enough for me because I use mine as a daily driver.  Also get the two driveshafts off the 90 so you can mix n match.

Will those seats fit in there okay?  Just curious because I need to get some new ones BAD (had a spring pop me in the huevos the other day).  I was under the impression that the 3rd gen seats don't fit well in to the 1st gen cab, that they are too big to get aligned well.

I haven't tried to put the seats in yet but here in a week or so I will try. And will post pictures if they fit.
