clutch slippage issue!
« on: Feb 13, 2011, 04:52:38 PM »
About this time last year i had my tranny rebuilt, along with my flywheel machined and marlin 1500 clutch put in. I had a shop do it all. Since then my clutch never wants to stay adjusted for very long. Today I went snowwheeling and as soon as my tranny would get out my clutch wouldnt engage untill the pedal was almost all the way up. Along with this the clutch would slip really bad. We stopped for lunch, the tranny cooled down and my clutch pedal was back to normal until it got warmed up again. What is causing it to do this? ill have to have some one check that when its hot and slipping. When its "cold" and NOT slipping I can let up on the clutch pedal to "engage" and it engages-gets the truck moving using no gas- with in the first few inches of up travel on the pedal. When it "hot" and IS slipping the truck wont start moving forward using just the clutch pedal until the last inch to  1/2" of up travel on the clutch pedal. make sense?

X2 clutch pedal rod as you work the pedal it builds pressure  and can't blead off quick enough,  loosen lock nut and rotate push rod 1 turn counter clock wise should be all you need. good luck

it fine cuz clutch disc is cool grabs once it heats up slippage and only will get worse till u need to replace clutch again which by sounds of it soon if u dont adjust the push rod just back it off a turn or 2

Maybe they cut the wrong step in the flywheel when they surfaced it. I would check the free play adjustment in the pedal/MC first.

I managed to get the clutch in my 85 hot enough in the Golden Crack that I almost had to be pulled out of it backwards.  It acted funny the rest of the day but seemed fine after cooling off overnight and was still going strong several years later.  The crack was just too much for 32 inch tires and open differentials in a long wheelbase truck.

Is it possible that you're abusing the clutch and just wore it out?  I wouldn't be surprised by having issues with an OEM clutch with 35 inch tires, what gears do you have?

i havent been using an oem clutch. my centerforce lasted about 5 years. then a year ago i put in a marlin 1200lb clutch. im running 35's with 5:29 gearing. mostly stock motor. i dont wheel hard. mostly dd and hunting rig. that clutch easily shoulda lasted more than 100,000 miles. thats very high side since i bought a dodge in august which i have been driving more

I have a stock style replacement clutch, 35s, 4.10s and k&n and paceshitter header,22re, does fine, no slipping. ran the dunes today all day in 2wd beating it pretty good(NO front shaft). everything seems fine, but only time will tell.

i will get them up today. My best hopes are that the fly wheel is causing the slippage and not the clutch. That is a possibility. so i guess we will see here in a little bit. i broke a marlin 5" spring yesterday to. that shouldnt of happened after 2.5 years using my truck as a dd and hunting rig
