how much grinding are we talking? I can get a v6 3rd with a detroit and the same gears i have (4.88s) if i give this guy my 3rd...he wants an open diff, totally free swap.  the 3rd is out of a 91 4runner.

it will fit fine.
sometimes you have to file the opening notch where the ring gear goes a bit.
just a light run with the grinder will do it most of the time.

I had to "walk" the gears into the housing on my rig, but no grinding.set the gears down on the bottom of the housing and turn the pinion and it will slide right in.

Does this apply to all 6 cyl third members?  I found one today in a 94 Runner with a V6 and was curious if it would fit in my 1983 Truck.
