Need help 5VZ-FE into 85 extracab frame
« on: Dec 24, 2004, 07:06:25 PM »
I have the 3.4 sitting on mounts from a frame that used to house a 3.0. I have stock 85 rad support mounted to measure from. Motor is sitting good 6.5 inches back from rad support mounting surface. I need a radiator that will fit between the frame rails, tanks top and bottom, and 4 inches taller than stock.  Suggestions
I have a 3.0 bellhousing mated up to the rear to move the clutch slave over to the left side of truck but its 1 3/32 shorter than the 1998 Tacoma doner. Will I cut out and add an aluminum plate to make up the difference or change trannies output or is there a bellhousing that will work?

4" taller than stock???  Did you buy Toy motor mounts (the ones that come welded onto the IFS support box) or something?  If so, your motor is WAY too high.  Note that your 85 frame rails are way higher than the IFS frame rails at the motor mount location (which is a major advantage with the SA frame, but problematic maybe in your case).  Lower the mounts and use an 88-95 V6 radiator, V6 fan shroud, bolts right up, and align the motor to it.  Works fine lasts long time.

 8) thanks again  I am using motor mounts I cut from a pre 95 IFS and I have accounted for the fact I may have to lower the engine some more. Would like to stick it at a 3" body lift not 4".  I also intend to use a simular motormount design to the LC engineering 22r/re mounts (Tube, polyurathane, sleve and bolt, Can't twist em off the rubbers) hoping to lower the engine 1" more in the process.  I'm using a 1985 Rad support with a four inch lift under it right now to help establish engine (Motor mounting height) but will only tack weld mounts til I get running gear under the thing. I know, I probably should get the running gear under it first but I think I will also be needing to put a remote oil sump in her.
So now I can go get me a 3.0 rad and fan shroud  This is a good thing Donkey
