Rear Axle Bearing Lifespan....
« on: May 28, 2010, 04:52:24 PM »
What's the typical lifespan of the rear axle bearings?

Just asking because of this weeks sale, and I have 170,000 miles............

Should I stock up now?

I had a 4 runner go over 450K before failure and I have 411K on my pickup now. Stock tires on the runner and only 31's on my pickup is probably why.

My kids truck has over 300K on original axle brgs but only has 31's.

Mine seemed to be fine but when i took the rear end apart for my rear disk brake conversion my bearings were completely trashed. Though it had 200,000 miles on them as far as i know. Just roll them in your hands if they feel any drag at all replace them. Pretty easy

Loaded question, depends on a lot of things like BS on wheels, tire size, and how it is used. I have had them go after a season. Do not know how many miles but it is not many, she's a trailer queen and lucky to see a 1,000 miles a year, but they are tough miles!!!! :hammerhead:
