peddle bracket broken. 91 xtra cab
« on: Jun 23, 2003, 03:01:45 AM »
Ok I am fixing this for a friend. I knew it was going to be a PITA since it was a girls truck.

Took it all apart. Got to take the peddles out before dropping the bracket. Also got to pull the Brake Booster and clutch Master. No big deal. Small crack in the firewall, I'll let that one go. However the top mounting places broke off from under the dash. Now I got to try and weld upsidedown under the dash.

My plan is to drill 3 holes in the piece that came out. selftapping screw in the center hole to hold it in position, Then weld in the other holes, and where it broke. After that take the screw out and fill that hole with a spot of weld.

Any other ways you see of doing this? Who has done this before? I hear it is common problem on T100's also. Toyota has a hevier gauge metal  on the new bracket.

OK I got it back together. The screw got welded in, on well. It took me a while to figure out the clutch spring. I think I got it right.

Got to go put the dash together now. Just thought I would post all my findings for all.

that is a common deal, mine has a welded spacer in there on the bracket. That bracket is a joke! I'd like to see someone swap in a different hanging assembly..

Ive seen that failure also. I drilled the ends of the cracks and TIGed the bracket up with a reinforcement strap from the topish to a mounting bolt.

I had the same thing happen to my 82. I made a replacement piece and welded it up. At the time I had a Center Force clutch that had a really stiff pedal. Did not have a problem after welding new piece in. It was a pain welding upside down in that spot.

the peddle assembly bracket is far from thick. 1/16th or so, my damn solder gun could fix that up. :)
