Could this be a busted CV?

I've never had a busted CV before and don't know alot about them, but I do know that when they are busted they click when you're on full steering lock.

I've got a rattle that comes in at about 20mp/h, it sounds something like wire rattling around and knocking on something. The sound sounds like it is being made by something light. If I lock the hubs in and not put the truck in 4wd, the rattle is there. It is also there in 4wd but I can't hear it as well as when I'm not in 4wd.

I don't get any rattles or clicking on full lock, it's all quiet.

Do busted CV's make heavy sounding noises???
Do busted CV's always click on full lock???
Since mine doesn't click on full lock would that mean that my CV's are OK???

You said when your in 4wheel your not getting any noise. Have you checked your locks?

I do get the rattles in 4wd but they don't seem as loud as when I'm not in 4wd.

The sound is more of a tinkle tinkle rather than a clunk clunk. I don't notice the rattle when turning at all, it's mostly when going in a straight line and usually when backing off the acelerator or rolling down a rise etc.

I've filled the CV's with moly grease, lots of it. I did rebuild my front axle, new seals, bearings, oil and grease and so on.

Is there anything in the locks that could rattle???
