I have spent most of my time on the 22R/RE engines and don’t recall reading anything about the actual wall thicknesses of the 20R and 22R blocks.

Is a 20R block an under-bored 22R block? Has anyone sonic checked the wall thickness of both?

Just curious.

Considered that, but I started looking into it before and after I bought it and it was a pretty common complaint on 89-95 trucks at the time, so I wrote it off as little more than an annoyance. Haven't burned any holes through my pistons yet, so

So, when you played with the ignition timing, did adjusting it down a degree or two make any difference. Where did you end up?

So depending on price, boring out the 20r is perfectly viable. I may have found a free '81 22r block that doesn't need as much work.

I just left it alone. It's my parts getter/dd and was only supposed to be temporary... about 14 years ago

My machinist found out he has cancer and is doing chemo now so I have to find another shop. Feel terrible for the guy I hope he comes out OK.

Reluctantly found another machine shop willing to bore the 20r block out so I guess I can move forward slowly...
