Fast ? about Waggy springs
« on: Nov 18, 2009, 03:33:42 PM »
From what I found searching the 7-leaves are "the ones" to get but I didn't see a reason "why"? I saw a bunch of 5-leaves at the yard and one set already has the axle removed. I have to replace the (de-arching) front springs on my friend's DD 79 long bed, it's not going to be wheeled a lot so she won't need 3 feet of articulation or anything super flexy. Doing a RUF swap is a bit over my head with the spring perch having to be moved, among other things. My question is: Do I really need the 7 leaves or will the 5s be fine for DD use? I want to get the 5 leaves since they're almost out; I'm a bit lazy...

Thanks a bunch... I hope!

Where'd you read you have to move the spring perch for ruf's?

Rears are longer than fronts... right? A few builds with RUFs had Sky's perches? Guess I missed a few words there... Ohhh... now I get it.  :smack:

From PBB Toyota bible:

Stock toy rears move the axle forward 2" because they are only 20.5" on the front half where as a stock toyota front spring is 22.5". But you have to add a few leaves to the pack to make them stiff enough to hold up the front of the truck.

I thought that meant I'd have to get a hanger for the length difference. I read good but understand poorly...

Dammit...  :hammer:

But since the Waggy springs are the same length I can still use them as fronts?

:confused and maybe drunk:

Only thing you really need to sweat is using bananna shackles with rufs, and the beauty of them is you can keep mixing and matching leafs till you get both the height and ride/flex you want.  If you're not switching to hi steer at the same time, you can either redrill your spring perches to move the axle back a little, or sky makes some little plates to do the same.

They help you clear the body mount that you'd hit with a straight shackle if using ruf.

Awesome, thanks guys! The truck has some Marlin shackles on the front now, I think 2" lift? Got them from craigslist... I should be doing this within a few weeks; at least December 5th starting. Like I said, it's a DD and won't see a ton of real wheeling so flex/travel aren't factors.
