Need an engine rebuild shop in the bay area
« on: Oct 13, 2009, 10:44:02 PM »
Got a blown head gasket, and a bad ring. I want to bore over a bit and put in a cam. Can anyone recommend any shops?

At the very least a reputable shop that does remanufactured/crate motors.

I'm looking to spend 1500-1800

Check out this web site. www.putneyscustommachine.com . He builds and ships bad ace motors all over the world and specializes in 22R/RE's. He is out of Chico, Ca.

Looks like a good shop, I'll call them today, but I need something in the Bay Area. I need to be able to drive to the shop and because of the head gasket, that limits me to a 30-40 minute drive. Chico is a few hours.

Talked to yodaman and putney:

Sounds like yodaman is $4800 installed which is a bit out of my price range right now, but it comes with a bore, japanese parts and a RV cam. Yodaman uses plastic guides, and reuses the oil pump.

Putney costs $2295 installed with a bore, new head and all toyota factory parts along with blue printing and decking the block. Putney puts on metal guides and uses a new aisin oil pump.

They both have the same warranty, and Putney will use parts that I have on hand and still warranty it, yodaman will not.

Sounds like I need to figure out how to get my truck to Chico :X

I tried calling the guy at main machine, and I got a robot answering machine so no message saying anything about being a shop, is it still in business?
