Center Console
« on: Aug 12, 2009, 08:20:21 PM »
I just bought a center console for my 4runner, but it has some fade marks on it that i need to get off. Does anyone know a good way to do it?

Clean it up really well, get a spray can of plastic cleaner, a tack cloth and some spray on dye, do the obvious and re-dye it

Duplicolor or Krylon (maybe both) have a paint that will work on plastic........

ive had good luck with the krylon fusion...painted the C and D pillars on my parents explorer with it a couple years back and its still holding up good, even in the weather/sun.  Like its been mentioned the preparation is really the most important thing. Dont skimp while cleanin it up.  Also i'd use a satin instead of glossy if possible.

This is how you *really* fix the plastic to be as good as new. :)

That's a great link.

If that doesn't work for you, I have always used SEM products> http://semproducts.com/images/Users/Chip%20Cards/VCS%20CC%202008.pdf

Grey Scotchbrite for prep.

Worked for me, just don't drown it in it. Dampen a rag with it and wipe down.

I've done my dash on my 2wd '87 with SEM products and they suck on plastic.  I folowed there prep instructions exactly and used there primer too and the stuff flakes off still.  It did work ausome on the vinyl dash pad and vinyl door panels though.

The DIY retrobright formula actually restores the plastic on a molecular level as well as cleans it.  It really, truly brings it back as good as new(unless it's literally crumbling - nothing helps that)
