hydro winch
« on: Jul 25, 2009, 02:01:06 PM »
I did a search and all i came up with on MC.com is one post about a hydro winch. I just got two hydro winches with pump for FREE!. mmmmm free is good. any way. what are your thoughts on this style of winch? i know there kinda slow, But there not to bad. i would say there not much slower then a normal winch.  anyone use a hydro winch? how do you like it? i know you cant really use one after a roll over. or when your on your lid. but other then that how well do they work? thank you

I have an early 9000 Mile Marker and love it. It's simple and will pull all day without any problems. The big downfal is when you have no engine power you have no winch. And yes they are slow, but only because of the flow rate of the pump. Also a good cooler is a must, I got a good burn off the motor after a good long hard pull, but it didn't effect the operation. For most pulls an electric is most practial, but for all out pulling the hydro can't be beat, unless you are using a PTO winch.

Thank Willy! Glad to see your back. Well today i found an electric hydro pump with its own 2gl tank. I'm thinking about using this over the pump on the engine. I could run the winch with the engine off , or up side down. I need to do a little research on this electric pump. I think will work better then the engine pump. Im still looking for some more input on this subject. so if anyone has any please pass it on. Thank you

Things to look for are GPM and PSI under load and amp draw. Oh and if you were upside down it still may not work because the pickup will suck air. Just some things to think about. I was thinking of a small gas engine that could be removed and placed uprite along with being able to remove the winch so it could be used anywhere. That would be good to rescue your own rig from almost any situation or get a winch where you can't get your rig.

Well i took a look at the pump and i think its going to work. the winches came off a tow truck of mine. and the pump is also from a tow truck. ( have both engine power and electric pumps) They both run a one inch line, so there has to be a high psi and gpm. As far as AMP draw, that electric pump ran off a truck battery, and could run off of it for a good 10 to 15min before killing the bat.  but most the time my rig will be running so no worry there. I need to pull the winches off the truck body and find out how much they weight it. that is one thig that holds me back. i dont want some 200lb winch on my front end. I'm going to my shop here in  a bit. so ill check it all out , and we can ssee what you hthink. Thanks agin willy
