T-case leaking from the fill hole
« on: May 23, 2009, 03:46:12 PM »
Take a look at this. I think i have over done it a time or two. I have a crack in the threads. What do I do now? I'll take any and all suggestions.

One more thing, anyone know how to remove and install a new boot on the t-case shifter . :help:

you just slide the hole of the boot over the shifter lever, yes it doesnt look like it will stretch that much, but it will, i've done it several times

as for the tranny.. jb weld it and call it a day, or you might want to get a new housing

that plug doesnt require that much torque

I thought about that too! I'd rather jb weld it for cheap. Any certain type of jp? I know there are different kinds. I thought about taking it to the local welding shop (since it is aluminum) I only have a lincoln 125hd wire feed. I dont know what it's gonna cost yet. I was just waiting on suggestions from all a you folks out there in the land of Marlin forums

something small, the hole will keep the crack from spreading. 1/8 would be fine im sure.

I couldn't find anyone to weld it, so I cleaned and scuffed it up a bit and used JB weld putty. It's been holding up so far and no leaks.

Did you drill a hole at the end of the crack? If not it can keep on cracking.

they sell a rod to weld cast aluminum but the smallest size you can get it in is 1/8 which is a huge rod for your application. an you need to drill a hole as said on the thread. when you ask around be sure to let everyone know it is CAST aluminum and it needs to be very clean before you weld it. they sell a good aluminum aircraft cleaner that i have used. it works great.
