proportioning valve adjustment question
« on: Jun 15, 2009, 08:02:45 PM »
yes i am new and i am sorry if i do anything wrong. please bear with me. just lifted my 87 runner 5ish inches. i have squishy brake pedal issues. a friend and i bled the brakes with "good" results minus the soft pedal. his fix for his rig was to muscle the line from the valve to the frame and it worked but that idea isnt working for mine. i have searched and read the other prop. valve post on the site and it talked about removing it. i am not against taking it off and wiring it up but while doing a search for this topic on other sites i came across a pic of someone who took a piece of flat bar and mounted the valve to it and the mounted the other end of the bar to the axle mount. the bar looked to be about 5 inches or so.  now come my Q's.  A is the bar idea good/ok/bad, and if so is there any math behind the length of bar to use or just cut on to 5 inches and try that. B if that is not a good idea then can someone point me in the direction of the specifics of cutting it off. maybe a detailed instruction thread somewhere.  thanx guys. if i did wrong on posting this i would like some feedback on that to( yes i read the noob check-in)

When I put longer shackles on my truck, I just moved the lower mount (axle) up by how much I gained.

If you gained 5 inches, just add a bar to up the mount 5 inches..........

You could use a longer bar, and drill extra holes so you can play with adjusting the rear line pressure (less length = less rear brakes, more length = more rear brakes)
