speedo delete
« on: Mar 13, 2009, 10:33:34 AM »
since I raised my cases, I couldnt get the speedo cable to thread into the case without dropping the drive train enough to thread it in. When I raised everything back into place it pretty much kinked the speedo cable to the point where Im sure its not going to work properly. My truck is pretty much not street legal and I dont care if the speedometer works anyway. My question is, is there a common cap I can get to cap off the speedo input? Has anyone done this and what did you do to cover the input to keep crap out. can anybody machine a cap for it?

Once upon a time I  siliconed a nickle into the "nut" and screwed it on.  Problem solved.

hmmmmmm

you mean on the end of the cable or just over the threaded hole on the case? guess either would work, I was going to try and save the cable in case anyone needed one

Over the end of the speedo drive under the nut.

I had a old busted cable so I cut it and slid the nut off.  I want to say the yota uses a standard GM 7/8"(?) thread so finding a nut isn't a big deal.

why not yank the drive unit and tap in a soft plug(expansion plug)?

ended up cutting the end off and epoxy'ing a penny inside the coupler

sacrificed a perfectly good speedometer cable, it would be cool to find a threaded cap for people that want to do this in the future

Toyota 22 mm  fine pitch, I think.

GM 7/8-18 I am sure.
