Wheel Spacer Reliability?
« on: Feb 17, 2009, 01:35:02 PM »
I've searched the forums and found some spacer posts but none of them say anything about their reliability.  So my question is, did anybody ever have any issues with them when used on a daily driver?  What about long distance driving, such as going to Utah from Cali?  I'm thinking about getting a set for a trip, but would like to know if it's safe to drive that far with the spacers.
 Cheers!!

I have spacers on my DD and drive 25 miles on way to work everyday.  Have never had a problem witht them.  If you torque them to the proper specs you shouldn't have any issues.  Just double check them after 500 miles of install like you should with your lug nuts to make sure they are still tight.

lock tight them and check them once in awhile.  i had 1.5's front and rear for a couple years and never came loose actually.

I have 1.5" front and back, drive 300 miles at a time. Checked them every 20 or so miles when I first put them on but they never got loose. Torquing works great  :twocents:

Not on a 4by, but I've had 1 1/4" spacers on my 2wd toy for a couple years, have beat the crap out of it making about 2-3 trips a month up and down long, bumpy dirt roads to get to hiking trails, and not once have I had a spacer work loose.

2 rigs with spacers here...

2" with 35s on a mini.

1.5" with 38.5s on the V8 LandCruiser.

Both DD and both abused heavily on weekends.

Never a problem on either rig.  I would trust them without a doubt assuming they are installed correctly.  :yesnod:

I do not like them on principle (just seems like a weak link in an otherwise strong chain...), but I have used them once, many years ago, on a then-new '69 El Camino. It got used pretty hard on the street, and they gave me no problems at all....
