Duals and chain drive
« on: Jan 03, 2009, 12:55:03 AM »
Just a quickie... will a 4.7 dual bolt up to a chain drive t/case or will I still need a grear drive transfer with a V6 adaptor plate in front of the dual to bolt up to my R151F?

You need an adapter plate to put the chain drive case to the gear drive case and an adapter to put the gear drive case to the transmission. Or you can get the V-6 adapter to run dual gear drive cases to your tranny. I ran a single gear drive case with 4:70's behind my R150 for a coupleof years before I went to dual cases with the 4:70 case in the rear. Either way you go you will need two adapters.

Hmmm, may be cheaper to grab a gear drive case and put a dual on the front of that with the adaptor to marry to the R151F... what's the most common setup for duals???

I have been running dual gear drive t-cases for quite a while with no problems. I do not know anyone with the chain drive set-up because it just came out in the last year or so. I prefer the G.D. cases because I want the 4:70 gears in the rear case with a twin-stick on the back case.

Ok... I'm still a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff, so what would I need to set mine up besides a G/D case, MC08, T/C adaptor (bolt to R151F)?

You will need d-shaft work, front longer with a long slip joint and the rear made shorter. Some take the front shaft and have it made longer and run it in the rear. For the front they use the solid yoke U-joint from the rear shaft for the t-case end and get a long slip from one of the vendors (Marlin has them) of they make a d-shaft out of square trailer hitch receiver stock, the square shafts are not good for higher speed driving.

Cool, one thing I wasn't sure on was if two cases were required or if the MC08 had the 4.7's in it...
