It really depends on what you are going to do with your rig. You could even go with a single case with 4.70 gears and may get the reduction you need. Most go with the 2.28/4.70 duals since it gives you the best of both worlds, leave the 4.70's in high and you get the normal low range, leave the 2.28's in high and put the 4.70's in low and you get that low range, put both the 2.28's and the 4.70's in low and now you're doing the turtle.

You ever been to Florence Junction? Need to do the turtle there, I beat the snot out of my truck in stock range. There is another option and that would be 2.28/2.28, doesn't give you all the gear options but you still get lower than a single 4.70.

Also you could go 4.70/4.70 but that is plain useless.

Just on the street.

There are some nasty trails in AZ. that require some major gear reduction. There are a few people I know of on here that wheel the area, I move a year ago and miss it sometimes.

So if I want to run 37's i will need to go 4.88 or 5.29 in the diffs. I think I got that. I could change out the stock gearing in thhe t case for 4.70 or add another case with a 4.70 and that would alow me to drive up anything...in theory??

i would go with adding a 4.70 case to your stock setup, that way if you ever get to hitting some nasty trails you wont have to upgrade if you feel you need that stupid low range. as for the diffs, 4.88's are stronger but 5.29s might work better on the street with 37's

...and while you have the 3rd's out you might as well throw in some lockers, then not only can you climb walls you will be able to climb air.

I don't like ARB's, I've seen way to many fail when really needed. Not that they actually broke but it is usually something with the air system. I like to know that my locker is there at all times, that's why I welded mine.

1. go stock duals. lower than a single 4.7 and more selectabilty.
2. 5.29s in the diffs to turn 37s on the street with an R series.
3. a simple MC-07 is all you need. 21 spline. and get a new crossmember and drivelines.

So I understand how the duals work but how does a twin stick work with this setup?

So the twins run off your main transfer case (which gets moved back when adding a duals) and the new dual case has its stick where the original one was?

Sorry for sounding like a noob but its the only way to learn  :inthedark:

no problem. sounding stubit sometimes is not a big price for learning.

anyway. the dual case has only one stick low/high and that only moves back and forward. that stick is gonna come up the original transfer case shift hole.
the original case moves back by 6 1/2" and you´l have to make a hole through the floor board for your new shifter.
I fitted mine through the coin vase (or what you call it) in the center console. and used an short throw shifter and made my own off set shifter... but I think marlin sells those off the shelf now.

read these and they´ll explain about ewerything

if you plan to wheel in the rocks here in az your going to need dual cases with the rear being a 4.7gear set. lots of vertical waterfalls in washes out here to have fun on.
