axle truss

curious what thickness metal to use for an axle truss.  I got a piece of 3'x3' square, 1/8' thick from work for free is that adequate?

1/8'' is good don't get that axle too hot IT WILL WARP i welded my truss 1/2'' then moved then did more let cool before you go back to the previous area if you use too thick of material your gonna have to use more heat and it's gonna be even harder to keep it straight.
