Another Newbie
« on: Aug 09, 2004, 08:06:35 AM »
Hi, everyone. I'm in Needmore WV  drive an '89 4WD shortbed, runs great, looks great  with a sick W-56  5-speed transmission and am on this page because I can't afford to make another $1000 mistake by buying a used tranny. I've gone through Chevy 3-speeds many times and am tempted to park the Toyota and drive the "big block" whilst I go through the Toyota 5-speed and was looking for some feedback regarding this. Thanks !

Tell me about it. I was in the middle of a remodeling Job with all my cash on the line and a seroius deadline staring me in the face when the OEM tranny gave up the ghost and I was using the truck to commute, so I purchased a used tranny for $650, & paid a guy $300 to put it in for me 'cuz I didn't have the time to deal with it. While the replacement transmission was getting put in I kept getting the wife's minivan stuck because I was so used to driving 4WD....  Got spoiled I guess.
