for pics, use a place such as www.photobucket.com and link the images

if rebuilding it, go for the cam, prob the biggest improvement, and port matching

Looking good brudda! Back in the day, the ol 6 in my FJ55 ran way better after doing the basics like a tuneup and adjusting the valves. I ended up putting on a header and 2 barrol webber from manifre with pretty good results, but it was kinda pricey. I also put on a glass pack muffler but did a crappy job of cobbing the exhaust together. Should have had a muffler shop do it but I had run out of dough.  :ack:

I'm a V8 FJ40 guy so I don't know the F motor very well but I have heard others mention how much they like a DUI distributor and a tri-y header...I've had good luck with magna flow mufflers.

I plan on driving it daily and also a trail rig,,,like to start by umping the torque in the 6cyl..then a 2 to 4in. lift..then replacing the drivers side rear panel an front fender.currently she's not ready for the road..but slowly working on it..every day !!! im not sure what lift or cam i should use..
For a DD/trail rig I would put a shackle reversal on the front and some +3s in the rear.  Add power steering and disc brakes to make driving more enjoyable.

still didnt get the smoke to go away, and noticed a miss. so come to find out the person who owned it before me had 3 plug wires backwards, put new ngk v-power plugs set to .032, new battery, positive wire, ground wire, new starter, rotor, cap . an then i fried a new msd blaster 2 coil..didnt even think about the resister stuff,,so now i have a non resister ciol with inline resister on the ignition wire an running a crane camxr-700 ignition with the electronic optical trigger in the distributer. I get it turn over, but slowly an it just wont start. checked the float bowl an its full. checked spark. but still not firing up..im thinkinking something in the ignition wireing under the dash to the key..can anyone think of anything else??? maybe the timing is to retarted ? these F engines are  :smack:

Make good and sure that the wires are on right, make sure the dui distributor didnt get put in 180 degrees out. Go back to the basics, set it up on top dead center for cylender #1 -  the intake and exhaust valve rocker arms should both be a tad loose as your cam should be off of the lobes with the valves closed. your rotor should be pointing directly at the #1 wire on the distributor cap and the pointer should be on the mark on your crank pulley

i didnt buy the DUI yet, im running the stock distributer,,without points. it has a optical trigger set-up,,im jujst wondering if that effects the static timing. I dont know much about static timing, just the stuff ive read in the manual..so today im starting with timing an then go from there an follow the leads back all the way to the ignition. an see whats tied in there. :crossed: I'll post a pic later..
