Rear Spring Topic!
« on: Mar 29, 2008, 11:24:12 AM »
I need new rear springs for my rig. Currently I run a junkyard spring my friends and I discovered. They are great but lack the durability of springs with a military wrap. All Pro is having a sale on their springs and I am considering them but I heard mixed reviews. My rig is a cheap truck challenge so money has a limit. Plus I am a noob to the forum and can't figure out how to post a pic, please help! :welcome:[

Dont know much about springs but the posting pic thing I believe you have to have like 15 posts or something. I think there is a list of rules on the home page after that number of posts you click on the insert image icon and insert the url of the picture you have.

Scott

If you start a iam new thread you will get you post count up and tell us about your truck. http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?board=7.0  :welcome:

Thanx White Trash. Is there any pics in use and how much travel? The spring rate is less, the price is right, but is there a difference? :inthedark:

The springs may be traitor gear but a lot of the other parts they sell are sold to allpro and dare I say marlin too... Some of it you buy from datin gets drop shipped directly from traitor gear and allpro... Like the wheel spacers I bought a couple weeks ago, they showed up in a allpro box....  Shipped from allpro, with allpro papers inside..

The hardware such as the front spring hanger is a generic style sold by everyone, go figure. ;)

So are Marlin springs made by the same company that makes All Pro springs?

Source may not be important to quality, but it is when one company has a sale. If they are the same.

If may be the same company, but if it is, I am willing to bet its a different spring. People need to realize a spring company makes more than one spring for the same applications. I do not have any experience with All-Pro springs, but people seem to like them. Only complaint I have heard is they are soft, like really soft, and not able to handle heavy stuff like towing trailers and such. In the end, its up to you, you do what you want.

But they say their spring rate is 250lbs.  :turtle: 's are 220lbs.
Anyone with the Johnny Joint shackle mount?

I have All Pro rear springs with the 4th leaf removed and a 45 degree shackle angle. They sag very little with a bed full of gear and still flex like poo.  They ride a lot better with the spring out and are really broke in with like 5 years on them.

Like POO Hugh!~   That's okay I have decided to build a custom spring pack. The springs I currently run have awesome flex in both directions. Nobody makes a custom lifted set of the leafs I run  :help: . Plus these springs have a couple of cool features that the company don't have. Like a shorter rear end from center but same forward end length and a natural Johnny joint.

I'm running them on the rear of my FJ40.  I use the stock spring hanger in the stock location and stretch the frame almost a foot at the rear where I then relocate my rear shackle hanger.  I install the 'manche spring pack backwards to stretch my wheelbase.  With the front springs installed backwards too it makes my wheelbase almost 104 inches.  With a V8 and 22" under the belly it works pretty good...
