Dana 300 on a R151F using AX15 parts?
« on: Mar 09, 2008, 12:35:42 PM »
I'm starting a new project, and want to do something differnt with my trans/tcase.

I'm going to be building a Jeep CJ3a, with Toyota drivetrain from my 85 Xtra cab. When I get to the transfer case, though, I'd like to switch from my existing marlin duals, to a single Dana 300. I like my 22RE & diamond axles, and this Jeep will be very very light.

There are a couple reasons for this, with clockability, overall length, and front-only capabilities.

So, I just came into a turbo R151F, which would suit my needs perfectly, if I can get the dana 300 onto it.

Ive researched several threads going the other way, with Jeep guys wanting to put toyota duals behind an AX-15, so using the R15X output shaft and tailhoung in their AX15s.

Will it be possible for me to go the other route, and use the mainshaft and tailhousing from an AX15 on my R151F to get me what I'm looking for? For just the parts I need, will any AXA15 work, or do I need the 86-91 early AX15?

I have an AX5 and G52, also, which I was going to use for this, but I'd rather use the stronger, better geared R151F, and use the heavier turbo flywheel that comes along with it.

Thanks for anythoughts :beerchug:
