gas tank interchangeablity?
« on: Mar 05, 2008, 06:56:13 PM »
Does anyone happen to know weather or not the gas tanks, sending unit and pump are interchangeable between the 22re and the 3.0.  The reason I am asking is I have a smashed tank that is currently being used  in my truck with the 22re, and would like to replace it.  I have a donor 4runner that has the 3.0 with all the replacement stuff and was wondering if I could use it. Fitment is not a big concern as it will be in a different location, however I am  curious if the two can be interchanged. Thank you

Yes if the body styles are similar.  Such as they both be runners, long wheelbase, short wheelbase etc etc.  the pumps seem to be the same, Im running a 3.slow pump on my re with no issues.

What side is the exhaust on a 3.0?   (I know it's left side for a 22re) as the tank would be on the opposite side

There is a crossover pipe that runs around the back of a 3.slow to put the pipe on the driver side to match the re's... ;)

Ok cool, thanks for the replies.  Space is not an issue it is going in between the frame rails and there is nothing in the way I just wanted to make sure it would work.  Thanks again

I think he is doing a tube bed so space in no issue.  It is an 86 truck and a 90s Runner. If that makes a difference.
