Mating a GM 3.8 To an R151/NV3500/AX15
« on: Oct 15, 2007, 12:08:54 PM »
Hey guys, for my next project I'm looking to use a supercharged GM 3800 (L67).

I know that there are a few different automatics that will bolt up to these transmissions, but I'm looking to stick with a manual. I know about the compatibility of parts between the 150/151/AX15/NV3500. However, I'm wondering if anyone has actually ever stuck a 5 speed and Toyota cases behind one of these motors.

As for what I'm planning so far...I would think that the flywheel and pressure plate could be had from a RWD 3.8 Camaro, and that you could use a Dodge NV3500 bell and input on an R151, or the back half of a 151 on an NV3500. I'm not quite sure what would need to be done for a throwout bearing and slave setup. I'm assuming the crank will have to be drilled for a pilot bushing and the clutch plate will have to be taken from another application and modified.

I want to use this motor badly enough that if push comes to shove, I will put an auto in there, but I'd much prefer a good old 5 speed. Has anybody actually done this before without flywheel spacers or stacked flywheels or other goofy stuff that I don't want any part of? Thanks in advance.
