4" marlin lift kit?
« on: Feb 04, 2008, 10:07:41 PM »
hey i am sreriously concidering getting the 79-85 alll around lift kit from marlin. i want to get a 4" lift to eventually run a max tire size of 35" on me 1984 4runner. does anyone know if this will be enough lift without being a monster truck? also what do i have to do about drive shafts? do i need new ones? if i do then if i put in a dual transfer case setup will i be able to use any of the axles again?

you will have plenty of lift. there are alot of peeps on here funning 37+ with only 3inch lifts.  what do you plan on doing with this rig? if its a trail only rig. then you can do square drive lines. if you going to drive every day then you can do a square front and get a rear one made. as far as the transfer case, i think you mean your drive lines, if you do a square front you can use that with a duel but the rear will need to be changed

ok cool. cause this is a dd also. so i will run something like 33's on the  street and 35's on the trail. so if i put a dual on then the only good my shafts will be are for the joints to make a square front? i have to buy a replacement for the rear?

I run 36 x 13.50 IROKS with a 4" Marlin springs, I did tub the wheel wells.

Once you figure out how long your rear D-shaft needs to be you can take your stock D-shaft and have it cut down or re-tubed using the stock yokes. Here are the measurements that the shop will need, measurements are taken with the rig sitting at rest with all four wheels on the ground.

i had a rear cut down for the front after i threw in the duals and cut down another rear for the back and it was only $100 for both of them! i also used the double cardan joints on the transfer case side of each one..... balancing was an extra $40 per drive line so i said screw it and i have no vibrations at 70!

Any D-shaft shop worth its salt will balance them.

One that Zuk fixed at Johnson Valley one time he threw a handful of sand in it before he welded it up.Worked good, no vibes, the guy ran it for a year after that with no problems. I have heard of people putting a few ounces of ATF in them also.
