Tires, TrXus? Other 255/85-16?
« on: Jan 25, 2008, 10:06:11 PM »
I'm kinda limited in choices because I settled on a 255/85-16 on stock width rims (7").

They make the TrXus in that size.  So far that's what I'm getting.  Anybody have an opinion on these?  Or Suggestion on another tire.  Looking to get something more agressive but this size limits my choices.

My other choices are BFG MT's, Cooper Discoverer S/T, Big O Bigfoot XT

But from that bunch I want the TrXus.  But this tire will see a lot of highway use, is that going to be a problem?  Been searching the web and a few have complained about high speed blowouts.

Thanks

Um yea, highway street use, I would go with the BFGs or the Goodyear MTRs. Interco, not so goody on roady!
Thats just an apinion though.

People have said the TrXus MT's are fine on the road, except for the people complaining about blowouts that is.  They're no bogger.

I've run many sets of BFG's over the years and although I generally like them I was leaning to the TrXus because I wanted to try something new.  But if they suck, I'd rather find out now than after I bought a set.

Don't make MTR's in that size AFAIK.

Coopers are good too. We have that same tire on a 2500hd and it works great.

Get the trXus and tell us how you like them. I want to use these on my truck, but there is not a whole lot of info out there about them. I am willing to bet that most of those blowouts were caused my misuse (going over the tires weight limit, underinflating, stuff like that). I bet they put these tires on their towing truck and can't figure out why they blow out when they load the truck with 5000# over the tires limit and inflate them to 20 psi. Anyways, I am very curious about these tires, and I think you should get them and make a little review on it for us other board members.

You are probably right about misuse.  The price aint bad on those tires too.  I'll have to see if America's tire will match or beat 4wheelparts.  I think they where $150 each at 4WP.

I looked at Coopers but the STT is not available in the size I want.  Only the ST.  And I don't want to go to a 285.  I know that will give me a lot more choices in tires but I want to keep stock type rims.  IMO stock rims are just made better and hold up better to abuse, and I think the 285 is a bit wide for a 7" rim.

I have a buddy runnin the intercos and he loves them, I rode in his jeep once and was impressed by the low noise and ride quality.  I wouldnt mind running them, but I have no long term experience, but he still loves em!
Life is too short!!!   Do something with it!!!
