IFS Beef up opinion needed.
« on: Jan 23, 2008, 05:58:22 PM »
hey all I have a question on my options with heavier torsion rods. I added a heavier plow on my rig (7 foot blade) and have found it to a bit much. Tires rub a little on turns with the plow up ( A bit more than it did with the 6.5 blade.  Downey offers 26 mm rods would that help? I would do a solid axle swap but the way the plow frame mounts up it uses 2 bolts on lower holes in bracket connecting lower control arms.
Thanks

Amazingly its not that bad I just need a little support for the extra weight. My last truck I ran an old 6.5 blade that was almost as heavy as this one. But the differece is this truck has the v6 and the old one had the 22r. Got a deal on the 7 foot blade. Just trying to make it work a little better.

The extra weight of the blade helps scrape cleaner less blade jumping when you hit crunchy compacted snow. carbon blades are good for cold snow (dry lower temp)

I run with 700 pounds in the back. (salt)  Weight class speaking I can run 1500 total cargo weight. I really need to upgrade the original springs in the back as well. Anyone know what springs are a direct bolt on with extra duty ability? Looking for 2 inch or less of lift.

Toyota made a 1 ton dually version of your truck but I dont' know where you could find rear springs for one.  It was a spring under 2wd but you could put them on top of the axle
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Old Man Emu (OME) makes some "heavy duty" 2 inch rear lift springs for your truck. They also have a "medium duty" leaf spring. Hope this info helps!

I was only talking about using the springs, not the whole axle.

I'd go with the Downey's or Rancho's and crank them in until you sit level again. That should help keep the frontend up, of course when the blade is down you'll sit high in the front. Then when you take it off for the summer you can uncrank them for use without the plow.

Edit: Actually you may be ok in the summer since you won't have all that salt/sand in the bed either.

Even with the blade off the frame is rubbing ocasionally. I can only hope it all comes apart when the time comes. Typically I pull the plow frame off in the summer and exercise the truck in the mountains and woods, So she never gets a rest from the beatings.
