anytime you have airflow (vent, fan, a/c) through the vents it will go through the heater core. If you keep hot coolant running through it, it will always blow hot air (as soon as the engine is warmed). What problem were you having? is the control valve stuck? did you break the control cable? or are you just not getting any heat at all?
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

Build it, break it, fix it, repeat until your wallet is empty.

the valve is stuck in the closed position   so im not gettin any heat at all   and i cant get the valve before i leave in the morning   and the local places dont have it in stock   so i thought just as a temp fix just bypass it   for the weekend   but i was under the assumption that with the vent on it wont blow hot only if its turned into the heat   or  defroster     and the vent just supplied air from outside
Lets shoot fireballs at it !!

mine was stuck closed, so i went to the junkyard and got another one. then when i took the old one off i found out it was full of RTV and junk. if i just would have remove it and cleaned it out i would have saved time and $$.

I bypassed mine years ago,It blows hot air all the time, but I rarely notice it,and I live where its hot,I don't have aircond.,my valve was messed up,but mainly I did it just to simplify the system, someday I might put it back together, but it hasn't posed a problem
