Newbie brake help please.
« on: Nov 10, 2007, 06:13:08 PM »
I just got an 88 v6 4wd truck today, it's going to be a donor for my zuk. It came with a early model straight axle for the front. I have all the brake stuff for both. What should I use? Is is worth it for me to use the IFS stuff? Other than the vented rotors they look pretty much the same to me. Here are some pics of what I am working with.

those calipers should be the 4 piston ones, which are good to use.  Search around on pirate.

The difference between the brakes are as stated the vented rotors and on the ifs caliper the four pistons are the same size where as on the solid axle it will have two big ones and two smaller ones. If you want to run vented rotors on your solid axle you need to run fj80 rotors and to run the calipers you either need spacers or grind down the colling fins

If you want to run vented rotors on your solid axle you need to run fj80 fj60 rotors

Fixed it for you

That is what I was looking for. I think I will do that, because the rotors are a little rough anyway. I will use the IFS calipers with the FJ rotros. Next question is what years on the fj rotors? Thanks for the help.

I have 81 FJ rotors on mine with the V6 calipers as well (still using the SA hubs also) .    :psss: FYI, the four cylinder calipers have two small and two large pistons in them and the V6 (maybe turbos also, not sure) calipers have four large pistons and more/larger external cooling fins.  Because of the cooling fins on the V6 calipers you'll have to check for the fit of your wheels since they may hit the fins on the calipers once bolted up to the hub and may require wheel spacers. Not all wheels will give you this problem, mine don't  :gap:.

90 and newer have the four large pistons on both the four and six cylinder. At least that has been my experience.
