1990 V6 into a 1988 4runner sr5
« on: Nov 01, 2007, 07:39:46 AM »
 :scared:

I am no novice when it comes to cars & trucks but now I am into the unknown territory and seek guidance from the hive mind.

I have 1990 V6 4 runner bone stock and rusted into scrap metal.  I seek to put the engine and possibly the transmission A340H (older) into my highly modified 1988 4runner. Which the previous owner could not finish and had put a chevy 350cid into with a roller cam.  So I have the chevy engine short block on an engine stand and am in the process of stripping the 1990 and now I find out the trans is one unit that may not be worth the effort of moving .  The recipient is a 1988 that is skyjacked, has 75K miles on it and the wiring seems butchered and the CPU is missing.  I am thinking I am better off switching this engine from automatic to standard and using some kind of aftermarket CPU and wiring for the engine while dealing with chassis electrical separately.  I have what seems to be the correct toyota 5spd for the V6 engine.  I also have a spare 22RE 5spd and xfer case if needed.  I need to be rid of 1990 before the building inspector cites me for too many unregistered vehicles and winter is closing in.  I also have a fully functional 1988 4runner with a 22RE w/ stick also dying of rust.

Ideas and thoughts and requested and appreciated. :)

well since you have a complete doner vehicle it shouldnt be to hard just swap everything you need I personally would swap in a 22re-less wiring mess.
but since you already have the v6 go for it.
Sorry I cant be of much help.
try searching in the search box also try a yahoo and google search on it.
Oh and welcome.

Im having a mental break down just trying to read your post. I would start by going through all vehicles you are going to trash and remove whats good on them. Next I would forget about that 350 only because I like toyota engines in my toyotas. Ok really what Im trying to say is take that 22re and swap it in the good vehicle and run with that. Its a better engine imo than the 3.0 though I would run that if it was given to me free or cheap. Also there is a ton of info on Pirate 4x4 to search for, just dont ask any questions. Good luck and maybe post some pics too

Thanks!

I got the 1990 V6 engine and ECU into the Charcoal 88 today!  Now I just have to get it wired up and buy needed conversion parts back to 5spd.

Apreciate the help!
