Iroc's or MTR's ?
« on: Mar 31, 2008, 11:01:30 AM »
Im in the market for some new meats. 85 std cab daily driver with Marlin 4" front and chevy rears. 4:88's with Aussie's 2:28/2:28 duals.  Looking to go with 36" Iroc's or 37" MTR's.  Runs would consist of Bald, Swamp, Dusey. Fresno area.  Any suggestions ?

  Thanks,

               John

MT/R's all the way.

I ran both sets of tires on my DD's and they wore down too fast. I had 36" and 39.5" iroks and they werent that great for a DD just becuase of how much they wore down on me in a short amonut of itme. The 36" ones were even radial and i could see the amount lost in about two months.

I also ran MT/Rs on my old trucks and they were great. For being a DD tire they do great in all conditions. They do best in rock.
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

I would vote MT/R if it was more dd than trail, and Irok if it was more trail than dd.

mtr's would be better for a daily. My neigbor has had both and loves Irocs but it's a trail mostly rig,(37-39 INCH TIRES) he says mtrs are much better if you are gonna be commuting. IROCs wear alot faster on the street but are more sticky in the rocks.
By the time I get the money for an SAS I'll be 65 at this rate!

Yes, Irok's wear faster, but they are about 40-50 bucks cheaper for similar size tire(36 irok vs 37 mtr).  Still a toss up in my view.

One opinion or possible outcome.  In my case I had two MTR lawn ornaments in under 500 miles due to the weaker sidewalls.  Judging by my treadwear,  no where near double the mileage.  So, I bought 7  37 inch mtrs,  $1750.  Bought 4 39.5" iroks for 1100 with tire warranty.  So I can buy another 2.4 bigger Iroks to distribute the mileage.  One point I also looked at was tire weight.  My 39.5 bias iroks are within 7 pounds of a 37" MTR

im just goin by my experience with the MTRs with around 50k on them. they have laughed at everything i have thrown at them except ice. My iroks also are super sick but if they are on a DD they will wear out FAST

suprised on your mileage out of the MTR's.   Up here 37's are only last about 25k.  I was impressed with the MTR's.  Kinda miss them at times, but it is a little tire compared to a 36" Irok.  The cost was becoming a sore spot for me.  For what I wanted and what I do, it seemed clear to me.  I'd like some 40" MTR's for DD duties, but $400 + a tire is just wrong.

Anybody got a explination why its nearly $150 more for a 37" MTR with a 17" rim rather that a 37" MTR with a 15" rim? The Iroks difference is about 10-20 buck a tire IIRC.
I vote MTR!

You'd think if they lower there price buy half the margin between the 15 and 17 they would sell ALOT more. I'd get em...

i would buy them to, but like you said it is an insane amount of money. And when you can get 40" iroks, even radial ones for way less its just not comparable anymore. Its just like Toyos they are outrageous, but a crap tire anyway lol
