as you can see they are in need of some refinishing. how do i bring these back to life? i'd appreciate some advice on refinishing these.

Wow, those look pretty hammered, have you tried any kind of aluminum polish like Mother's or Neverdull ? I cant tell if they're just stained or pitted. If they're pitted good luck, just rattle can 'em black :)

no pits, it's only finish damage/wear. i'll try the polish but it seems like i should try to remove as much of the old finish as possible. the previous owner suggested 0000 steel wool but that seemed sketchy. any ideas?

Castrol Super Clean is your friend.  It will take any polish, grease, tar4nish etc off of aluminum.  I use it like its going out of style on everything!  If the wheels are clear coated it will not etch the wheel at all it will just clean them.  If they are unfinished it will take everything down to its raw alloy state.  Then all you need to do is polish tem with mothers etc as Kyota suggested.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??
