you should check out turkey flats while in the area,  i go riding out there alot on my dirt bike, and there are some trails that look like the would be fun to take a trcuk on.

Thanks.  Actually, the runner is pinstriped to hell, but the charcoal grey hides it well. 8) I still need to call the Pozo Saloon to see if they will be open on Sunday the 14th or if they are having a concert.  It is a pretty cool place and makes for a nice day starting at the beach, taking dirt to pozo, and then a nice country drive back to the highway.

ONe of the trails near turkey flats is Las Chiches, unfortunately they graded it this summer, so I heard it is pretty tame.  Pine Mtn. is nice and scenic and has a real extreme section at the end with no bypass, so it is pretty much a long there and back trail.  Garcia Ridge is the most overall challenging of the trails in the area (pretty easy if you have lockers, but it does have some rocks to play on), also it is nice because the majority of the fun hard stuff is right near the beginning, so you don't have to have a lot of time to have some fun.

i'm not sure exactly where las chiches is, but i know ster steps is still there, and its pretty fun the play on.  i guess it is a bit of drive though just for one obstacle.

YOu know where you turn off of pozo rd. at the summit to go to the bottom of the stair steps on pine mtn.?  Well, if you turn the opposite direction off of pozo rd. , that is Las Chiches.  It is pretty easy but has/had some real steep loose rocky hill climbs in it.  Made it a challenge when I did it towing my loaded m416 trailer and no lockers, lol.

by chance, have you ever taken the botanical gardens road at the top of the grade?  near the beginning, there is a spot on the left where it goes down a hill, and looks like the trail goes on.  i'm not sure if your allowed to go down there, but it looks like it could be fun.  i think i'll find out from the sherrifs dept.

I think last time I was up there, it looked like there was a gate just down aways.  I kind of think it is an access for the railroad workers.

ive been to the top of the grade many times and there is some fun stuff, kinda. but its a lot of driving for nothing too challenging. its got a lot of great views and scenic driving if that is what you are looking for.

Ya, I agree. I haven't been up there since I got rid of my little 2wd mazda truck.  Mainly a long drive and nice views.

Camp and communication info: (I also added it to the first post)

Camp Area Info:

Once you are in the park, head South down the beach.  The camp area will be between pole #7 and the end of where you can drive on the beach (basically if you get to the fence on the beach, you went a little too far, but are right in the general area)
The camp will be between the high tide line and the restrooms which are a couple hundred yards in towards the dunes.  We should be the biggest group out there that weekend so we should be pretty easy to spot.
For those that have GPS here are the coordinates:
N35 03.790  W120 37.671

Communication:
CB channel- 16
FMRS (little motorolas) channnel: 14 privacy code 0

UPDATE: The crew is on the beach and doing well.

I saw lot's of trucks and lots of fun.

I even had fun running around the back dunes with a small group of Runners and Tacos until I busted a motor mount on my FJ60.  :(

At least I got some good air launching off  a dune before I realized it was broke.

I limped home (being local has its advantages) and fixed it this evening, ready to go back out...

Great job Chris and crew!

We love seeing Toyotas rule the beach!

Wow! What a weekend!  Everyone, thanks for coming out and enjoying the festivities. You guys are the ones that make it truly enjoyable. I had a blast and I hope I got to meet everyone and chat, and if I missed ya. I'll just have to catch up with ya next year. :D

Huge thanks to Jenn and Justin (JnJ) for getting all the kids stuff together and all your help from the very beginning till the end. Thank you!

Thanks to Bob and Lance, for their organization and help at the event, without you guys I don't think I would have been able to get out and enjoy myself.

Thank you to all our sponsors for the raffle prizes and goodie bags (I think pretty much every vehicle was walking away with something).  Remember these guys when it comes time to add parts to your rig. :D

Huge thanks to my wife April for allowing me to plan this. I know at times she thought I was  :screwy: but she stuck with me. Thanks, Babe.

Thank you to Edwin from the marlin board, and Matt (one of my general contractors) for bringing out the wood.  It took a major effort to burn it all, but we did it. :hillbill:

Thanks to all the others that pitched in and helped, couldn't have done it without ya.

Thanks to all the marlin members who made it out and joined in the festivies!  Hopefully you had fun and will bring more out next time.

Tracker, I'm glad you and your family made it out and had fun.  From the pics, it looks like your son had fun in the sand.

Who was the dark silver 1st gen with no front driveshaft? Was that bigarms23?  I didn't get to meet him.

I'll try to repost pics over here that I know are of the marlin guys, but I may miss some.  There is an awesome one of the silver 1st gen jumping.

This guy gets the big air award. He launched this 85 to the moon. It was an almost stock suspension set up too. He blew all 4 shocks on the landing. It was impressive to say the least!

You weren't the only one who broke on the way out. Our front seal went out... we had to leave our 4Runner in Northridge. We still had a blast, though, bumming rides from everyone!
